A free virtual learning community for nonprofit humans reimagining how we work, lead, and care together.

Stay in the loop for 2027

The 2026 series is over,, but the conversation continues. Join the newsletter to be the first to know when 2027 registration opens, and to receive bi-weekly(ish) reflections on sustainable leadership and the patterns keeping nonprofit culture stuck throughout the year.

Winter is the season when the world goes quiet; when what's underground becomes more important than what's visible. For nonprofit professionals running from one fire to the next, that kind of quiet can sometimes feel impossible.

Winter Roots exists to make it possible anyway.

"I needed this type of connection with like-minded nonprofit leaders. It was so, so lovely."

A third space for the work behind the work.

Winter Roots is not a webinar series. It's not a checklist or a certification. It's a third space — not home, not work, but somewhere in between — where nonprofit professionals drop their titles, set down the to-do list, and think together about the questions that rarely make it onto the agenda.

We gather over the course of the winter: part expert-led sessions, part facilitated collective learning, part honest conversation about what this work costs us and what it could become.

This community is free because professional development should be accessible to everyone, regardless of budget size. Come as you are.

ā€œYou offer such a thoughtful and thorough approach to providing support and shared learning to professionals who are always providing support to everyone else. Thank you for your innovative design and your kind way of building community.ā€

Who belongs here

Founders, first-year staffers, volunteers, board members, consultants!  If you're hungry for honest conversations about building a more sustainable nonprofit culture, you belong here. The only prerequisite is caring about the work and being willing to think differently about it.

What we do together

Winter Roots sessions are structured around three kinds of gatherings:

Expert-led conversations: past speakers have explored neuroinclusive employment, trauma-informed storytelling, and transformative governance.

Nuts-and-bolts deep dives: practical sessions on databases, grants, branding, and the operational realities nonprofit professionals navigate every day.

Collective learning sessions: facilitated spaces where participants share tools, name patterns, and make meaning together.
